Our Story

Traditional Gold Zari Threading

Rooted in the Sacred City of Varanasi

Universal Fabric was founded with a singular, passionate vision: to protect, preserve, and share the unmatched beauty of authentic Banarasi handlooms with the world. Nestled along the banks of the sacred Ganges in Varanasi, India, our roots stretch back through generations of master weavers.

What began as a small home studio has evolved into a global symbol of premium Indian textile luxury. Yet, our core practice has remained unchanged. Every piece of fabric we offer is crafted using heritage wooden handlooms, pure mulberry silk, and real gold and silver zari threads.

Our mission is to bridge the gap between ancient Indian artisans and modern global connoisseurs, ensuring that the legacy of Banaras continues to shine on runways, luxury weddings, and design ateliers around the world.

The Pillars of Universal Fabric

🛡️

100% Authenticity

We strictly deal in certified pure silk. Our fabrics carry the official GI (Geographical Indication) tags, representing authentic Varanasi handloom origin and quality protection.

💎

Craftsmanship

We celebrate the slow-fashion movement. Every design is meticulously pre-sketched on graph paper (Naksha) before being punched into harness cards and handwoven thread-by-thread.

🏛️

Heritage Legacy

By bypassing middle-men and providing sustainable livelihood opportunities to over 150 local artisan families, we preserve the traditional weaving arts from fading.

Artisan at the Handloom

Crafted by Hands, Guided by Soul

The true heartbeat of Universal Fabric resides in the rhythmic clatter of the wooden shuttles in our local weaver communities. A single Banarasi silk saree can take anywhere from 15 days to six months of continuous, skilled labor by two or three master artisans.

We work directly with weaving maestros like Chacha Mushtaq and his family, who have held the secrets of complex double-warp brocades for five generations. Our fair-trade pricing model ensures these master craftsmen receive dignified compensation, allowing them to pass their invaluable skills onto the next generation with pride.

When you drape yourself in a fabric from Universal Fabric, you are not just wearing silk—you are wearing a piece of living, breathing art, handcrafted with Varanasi's soul.
